Music of the summer electrifies our earbuds

Hope you’re having a great summer. Me? I haven’t been arrested or thrown out of any bars so life’s good. Here’s a quick, brief overview of what we’ve been missing musically since our last issue.

  • MATC Times summer

Simple things for students in the summertime in Milwaukee

The smell of grills stacked with brats and other goodies combined with the sound of music drifting from street festivals and the Summerfest grounds blankets Milwaukee. Anyone not from Milwaukee would immediately appreciate the dogged determinedness of Milwaukee County residents when it comes to getting outside and enjoying summer days.

Sometimes all you need is the blues

I was very apprehensive about Robert Randolph Presents The Slide Brothers (Concord) and much to my surprise I really had nothing to worry about. See, Randolph is considered the prime-time slide guitarist around today and it would be hard to me to deny him that title. It’s just that he continuously makes flat, dull records.

Re-masters pay homage to legends gone but not forgotten

As I mentioned last column, this time of year sees a lot of re-issues, holding back new material to coincide with supporting spring/summer tours.

“I sold it to protect it,” George Lucas, creator and director of the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” sagas told about selling the rights of Lucasfilms to Disney for $4.5 billion this past October.

Experience some previously unreleased Hendrix recordings

Hey, happy Valentine’s Day! Also, welcome back to a new semester of higher education, delicious warm cafeteria food, and plentiful and abundant parking. Historically this time of year sees very few new releases as record companies wait until springtime to issue a big name product.

‘The Man with the Iron Fists’ soundtrack packs big punch

An awesome little 6-track EP that was recorded during a rehearsal back on December 11, 2011, as the band prepared for it’s hugely successful 2012 tour. They stopped here at the Bradley Center back in May with Arctic Monkeys – and they crushed. A two-member band consisting of guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney, the band started turning heads when they released Attack & Release, produced by Danger Mouse. This ep consists of 4 tracks from last year’s El Camino and two from 2010’s Brothers. All are good. Especially “Gold On The Ceiling” and “Next Girl”.

  • Jason Aldean’s voice is typical for country style

Before I go any further with this review, I just want to let everyone know that am not a country fan at all, so to do this was very interesting. This review is on Jason Aldean’s album Night Train, which was released October 16.

  • Machine Gun Kelly teams up with rap artists

Machine Gun Kelly’s Lace Up released October 9. This album features a bunch of well-known rap artists such as Wacka Flocka Flame, Lil Jon and Young Jeezy. The song that stood out the most to me was the song “D3mon’s” featuring DMX. The reason it stood out the most was the intro of the song, it starts off with a synth riff which sounds creepy and eerie.
