Despite freshman roster, volleyball team is improving

The Stormer women's volleyball team is playing the 2009 season with all first-year team players and got off to an average start this season, but they played a strong match in defeating Joliet Junior College in three sets 25-12, 25-13, and 25-21.The Stormers had eight wins and nine losses overall and had three wins and three losses in conference play prior to the Joliet game. With the victory they have won three of the last four matches.
"I am pleased with the performance of our all-freshman team. We have gotten better with every match," said Stormer Head Coach Melissa Blessington.
Joliet was outmatched the first two sets. The Stormers took early leads in those sets, and Joliet never mounted any threats.
The final set was close, with neither team able to get more than a two-point advantage, until the Stormers edged away at the end and went on to win the concluding set 25-21.
"We hope to finish strong in conference play and I believe we will," said Blessington.
Team members are: Sam Delorme, Gillian Clarke, Maranda Cardarelle, Ashleigh Sandbach, Becky Inniger, Sierra Medinger, Fanny Tchouapi, Leila Zintesm, Johannah Gregg and Rachel Kohn.
Head Coach is Melissa Blessington and Assistant Coach is Lanasia Randle.
