Students have asked for a section on the website where students can review instructors, and those reviews be made public for a number of years now. The response has been a subtle no. The thought, many believe, is the teachers' union, the instructors, or even both - fear that having a public review site would only highlight the bad. However, there are many great instructors that would get highlighted, too.
The great teachers blend in the background, only getting highlighted when students talk among themselves. This is just sad.
Their great teaching skills deserve to be recognized, and by denying the review site, the administration is, in essence, denying those teachers recognition.
This is quite surprising when you think about it. The administration regularly hears complaints concerning the instructors, from the borderline bad to the downright awful.
Rarely do they hear of the instructors who have done their job well. One would think that they would desire to hear of those instructors that have made hard classes manageable, or even enjoyable.
