Doors open all over Milwaukee

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church was open to the public during the Doors Open Milwaukee event held Sept. 22 – 23. St. John’s is one of the many Gothic–style churches located in Milwaukee. Located on 8th and Vliet, the church still holds services every Sunday starting at 10 a.m.

Doors Open Milwaukee 2, held on September 22 and 23, featured 125 wonderful buildings that hold hidden treasures of historic, architectural, cultural and commercial interest – from churches to office buildings, theaters to work sites, museums to hotels, clubs to universities.
Sponsored by Historic Milwaukee Inc., a private, non-profit educational and advocacy organization dedicated to increasing awareness of and commitment to Milwaukee’s history, architecture and the preservation of its built environment.

Built in the 1890s the Federal Courthouse is just as astonishing inside as it is outside. From gargoyles and castle–like architecture along its exterior to over two miles of stencil painted designs on its interior. Details are abundant in this remarkably beautiful historic building.
