Grad turns hobby into profession

What would you do if one day your boss walks in and tells you the company has been sold and you will need to find a new job? This scenario happened to Tammy Gallant.

Tammy, a single mother with two grown children had been working as an executive administrative assistant for the owner of Invivo Corporation, a device manufacturing company.

Tammy was such a valued employee that her boss said that he would pay for her to return to school and begin a new career. She chose radiography. “With my clinical background, I thought that it would be the best fit,” she explained. I love the fact that I am part of a team that helps to enrich the life of others by providing a quality and much needed medical service.”

Radiography, she explained, is the use of ionizing electromagnetic radiation, such as X-rays, to view parts of the body; the images generated enable the radiologist to better diagnose his patients.

She enjoys taking photos and felt it was an extension of that passion. In 2010 Tammy graduated with honors from the Applied Science of Radiography program.

She made the Dean’s List and also received the Lamp of Knowledge Award. Tammy currently works as a Radiographic Technician at both Kindred Hospital and the Orthopedic Institute of Wisconsin.

She praises MATC for her strong foundation in the medical industry; she plans to continue her education and is currently working on her Bachelor of Health Science with a minor in Psychology at Carroll University in Waukesha. “Pursuing higher education enables us to accentuate our personal gifts, therefore providing us with a purpose and a pathway to give back to our community.”
