Obama RV Tour stops at MATC

On October 16 in Room M605 at the Downtown Campus First Lady Michelle Obama’s brother, Craig Robinson, with Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and actor Kurtwood Smith arrived in the Obama RV to encourage students and faculty members to get out and vote.

Actor Kurtwood Smith started the rally stating, you folks are the voices of this campaign.  We need to get everyone out to the polls, you can do it.  I know you can do it, you and your voice.”

Living in a world that has affordable healthcare and being able to have a job is the world Smith wants to live in.
Craig Robinson spoke telling the crowd to do two things, “What we need you folks to do, is first and foremost, register to vote.  Let’s get out and register.  The second thing is if you’re registered, to register ten or 20 people on your own.”
Robinson wants us to not be afraid to have political conversations.

Politics are the most important, yet hardest conversations to have, especially with folks who have not decided.
When asked about what changes you could see after the election, Mayor R.T. Rybak stated, “My city and Milwaukee have benefited in a huge way from our president, who’s put firefighters and police in the streets, teachers in the classrooms and made huge investments to help those who are struggling.  All of that is in jeopardy and much more.  We have to win this election.”
When asked where he would see the country after the election, R.T. Rybak stated, “The president has led us through a crisis and when he wins this election he’ll finish the job.  We can’t go back to the bad days that got us in this mess in the first place.”
In discussion on how the first family was surviving the pressure of the election, Robinson stated, “You know they survive with a lot of love and support; and like I said when I was speaking, they feel like they’re doing the right thing. They’re doing the most for people and it makes them feel good.  It makes them handle any kind of negative vibe they get from anybody, so they’re holding up just fine.”

The next stop on the Obama RV Tour that day was to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
