As a part of our 50th celebration, we are again, highlighting two more years of our paper's past. This year we are highlighting 1969 and 1970.

In 1969, the school was in an upheaval over changing the name from Milwaukee Technical College to Milwaukee Area Technical College. Apparently some board members were upset because they disagreed about the word "area" being included. Yet, what they had hoped to accomplish has been accomplished. The surrounding areas are a major part of our school.

In 1970, the four-year degree was less valued compared with job requirements of today. Now, many employers desire or require a four-year degree. This was not the expectation in 1970.

In the article New two-year degree here in Community Service Aide they state, "The trend today is away from four-year colleges because it was found that people can do with a two-year degree essentially the same thing that used to take four years."

Although many students would agree with them, many employers don't. There may be some programs today that don't require a four-year degree; unfortunately they are becoming few and far between.
