Located in the virtual shadow of the MATC Oak Creek Campus, at 4698 S. Whitnall Avenue, St. Francis, is the Thai restaurant Bangkok House.

Bangkok House provides a very ethnic atmosphere, with deep tones of colors expressing the Thai culture. As you look around the restaurant, you feel as if you are in Bangkok itself. The seating in the restaurant is well placed, providing every patron an equal feel of the ethnic atmosphere, and it isn't cramped, giving everyone room to themselves. A little disappointment was that there was no music during our meal, and the only sounds heard were conversations around us.

The all-you-can-eat buffet, which is available between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m from Tuesdays through Fridays, is offered at a low price of $7.95. When the lunch buffet ends and dinner starts, you then have to order off the menu. The menu contains some of the dishes on the buffet, plus several more, and is more pricey. The buffet contains 18 dishes, including two varieties

of soup. Soda and their other offered drinks aren't included, and there aren't free refills on the soda, but with the buffet being $7.95 a person this is understandable. Even though the buffet doesn't contain as many dishes as other buffets, the saying "quality is better than quantity" chimes in. The famous Volcano Chicken holds a high position among the dishes. This dish offers fresh, spicy chicken mixed with some stir-fried vegetables. The chicken certainly is spicy enough to please the adventurer. Complementing the Volcano Chicken are Fried Rice, Curry with Noodle, Vegetable Pud Thia, Drunk Man Noodle and Chicken Baby Corn. All these dishes include vegetables and noodles.

I tried the Tom Yum Chicken soup and can testify that this soup provides an irresistible blend of Thai spices, chicken, vegetables and the main ingredient, Shiitake mushrooms. The Shiitake mushrooms and the Thai ingredients push the soup from being merely fine to excellent.

I found the servers prompt and attentive. Bangkok House is a great place to go with friends and family, providing a friendly atmosphere. The cleanliness of the restaurant is commendable, providing you with a healthy peace of mind as you eat your food. There is no smoking in the building, including the bar.

Dinner hours are available Tuesdays through Fridays from 4:30 p.m. through 9 p.m. Saturday dinner hours are 4 p.m. through 10 p.m., and Sunday dinner hours are 4 p.m. through

9 p.m. On Mondays, Bangkok House is closed. Parking is available right outside the building. For more information, call

414-482-9838.

If you are looking for reasonable ethnic food, I would highly recommend Bangkok House, primarily for the lunch buffet. With great prices and even greater food, this place ranks a high score in my book.
