Ms. Beecher:
Potholes in Milwaukee have become worse after this long winter. The city of Milwaukee has a great deal of work ahead of them, but not enough staff. The Common Council of Milwaukee should allow more funding so that the Department of Public Works can hire more workers to repair our streets.
Some of the potholes are huge in the city. I have hit many, especially while driving down Hampton Avenue where I know I cannot dodge them all. Sometimes I wonder, like many other city drivers, if I am damaging anything on my vehicle. I have seen cars off on the side of the road fixing flat tires due to the pothole problem.
Overall, I believe that the City of Milwaukee is doing an adequate job. In order to help clean up our streets you need to do your part by going on the Internet or making a phone call. Talking about the problems in our streets will not solve the problem.
The City of Milwaukee receives complaints every day due to the winter's damage. If you would like to make a complaint, you may
do so by going to www.dpw.net/services or, you may also call
414-286-8282.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Triplett
I am writing today in response to the article that appeared in the March 20, 2008, article written by Stephanie Beecher.
I agree with her, although I myself am not a single mother or a mother at all. I do appreciate and encourage the effort that many "non-traditional" students on campus have. I believe that society doesn't give them enough credit.
I, myself, could never think that I would be able to handle that much responsibilty and some people in society don't see the struggle that I take.
Kudos to all those single parents at not only MATC, but at every college or university, as well as every parent who is working hard to benefit themeselves as well as their children's future. This shows a sense of responsibility that many strive to have but may never suceed in having.
