Mequon collects old meds
Issue date: 5/9/08 Section: News
Earth Day weekend proved to be a success when MATC Mequon Campus partnered with the Ozaukee County Health Department to collect over 500 pounds of medications in a truly successful medicine drive.
Residents were encouraged to dispose of any old prescriptions and expired medications as long as they were in the form of pills, ointments, sprays, inhalers, creams or vials. Pet medicines were also accepted.
The event was held to promote human and environmental health. By safely disposing of old prescriptions, adults and children are protected from accidentally ingesting expired medications, and are less likely to flush them down the toilet, household drains or throw them into the trash. This also helps to protect the local water supply from becoming polluted.
Over 175 residents drove through Mequon's Autotech Lab where Veolia Environmental Services took the medications for safe and proper disposal.
