President's Award recipient, Maija Cruz, is all smiles.

It's on the buses, billboards and yes-even those giant TVs in the Milwaukee Campus Student Center; MATC's slogan "Start Here, Go Places." Those words have never rung more true.

President of the Native American Student Movement and a District Board Member for the Student Senate, Maija Cruz could be the ultimate MATC success story. Cruz began her MATC career in the Adult High School program, later enrolled in the Liberal Arts program and is now graduating with honors.

In addition to receiving the Lamp of Knowledge Award in the Liberal Arts division, Cruz is also this year's recipient of the prestigious President's Award.

Cruz has interviewed at numerous universities, including Stanford, Georgetown, Yale, and Harvard. In the end she chose Stanford, for their financial support and "their sunny location." She plans to major in International Relations and minor in foreign language, with an emphasis on French.

The Times sends out a hearty congratulations to Maija and all of this year's award finalists, including Kerri L. Johanning, Travel Industry (agent) Training, Damon Rimmer, Human Services, Susan M. Patterson, Management Developement (Supervisory Management), and Anne-Marie Warkoczewski, Interior Design.
