What You Will Do

Johnson Controls is a world leader in providing intelligent building products that fulfill our customers HVAC, fire suppression and security needs. This internship opportunity is with the HVAC Thermostats and Sensors products engineering group. This individual will engage in hands-on work in the development and testing of product hardware and software. Activities may include building prototypes, troubleshooting, instrumentation of test platforms, component and system qualification testing, circuit design, and firmware development. This position is located at our downtown Milwaukee, WI location.

How You Will Do It

The selected candidate will be capable of working with limited direction in a collaborative environment with engineering and manufacturing personnel. This role requires interaction with personnel that may be internal and/or external to Johnson Controls, thus requiring good written and verbal communication skills. This position also requires the ability to multitask, and to work effectively in response to changing priorities.


What We Look For


  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. college or university within commuting distance to our downtown Milwaukee, WI office.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with sophomore or junior standing.
  • GPA of 2.75 (on 4.0 scale) or higher.
  • Demonstrated desire and ability to learn quickly and independently.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Experience working with electronic circuits and common lab equipment.
  • Experience using Microsoft office products (Word, Excel and Outlook at minimum).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work at least 12 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week during summer break.
  • US Citizen or legal right to work in the U.S.


  • Experience soldering surface-mount and thru-hole components.
  • Experience working with a major programming or scripting language.
  • Experience using advanced data analysis features of Excel (complex functions, pivot tables, etc.)
  • GPA of 3.5 (on 4.0 scale) or higher.
