MATC celebrates ECAM at Open House

Milwaukee Area Technical College celebrated its Center for Energy Conservation and Advanced Manufacturing (ECAM) at Open Houses held on October 22, 2008. ECAM is located at MATC's Oak Creek Campus.

Industry partners and civic officials joined MATC staff to learn about the educational and training opportunities available in the $9 million, 34,000-square-foot facility.

I injured my back at my last job. I also have some mental health problems that I take medication for, but several times a year I end up in the hospital. I think I should be eligible for Social Security Disability. I have looked at the application, but it looks too complicated.

Open House draws huge numbers

MATC hosted its annual Open House on November 8 at the Milwaukee Campus. Over 1,300 attendees were exposed to 108 program offerings through video presentations, demonstrations and tours.

The Open House provides a chance for new and prospective students to get exposure to the programs offered at all campuses as well as field any questions they may have.

Vice President Stilp meets with student leaders

Many of us have heard the term "Student Senate." While some of you may know one, do you know what they actually do?

In short, they are the voice of the student body. It's their job to convey your concerns and requests to the College's administration.

During the October 22 meeting, they discussed a range of topics, which included everything from problems with the vending machines and getting pay phones installed to upcoming event planning.

Wind turbine dedicated in recent ceremony

Mequon Campus celebrated the erection of a wind turbine with a ribbon cutting ceremony Nov. 12. The 160-foot-tall unit with a blade diameter of 56 feet is the largest wind turbine on a college campus in the state. It is part of a sustainability initiative designed to educate students and the public about renewable energy technologies.

Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead

The Latin Student Organization has been celebrating Dia de Los Muertos with displays for over five years, according to Becky Quesada, Student Services Specialist from the Multicultural Student Services office.

Quesada explains, "The Spanish Catholic Church changed the date of All Souls Day to November 1 and 2 as the days for celebration.

Her latest, Little Honey (Lost Highway), could very well be her best yet. Williams is one of those writers whose work directly reflects what's going on in their personal life at that time.

'Role Models' is predictably funny
